Audiences and Institutions
The horror genre is usually targeted towards a younger audience. Younger people tend to enjoy horror more because they enjoy being jolted with adrenaline. The typical target audience for horror is the group of 15-24-year olds. Younger children should proceed with caution when watching these movies. These types of movies include a lot of gore. The ratings on most horror films are at least PG-13. Some are even Rated-R, which means you should be over the age of 18 to watch. Horror films attract viewers because of weird and frightening occurrences. There are many types of horror movies. These include psychological horror, paranormal horror, thriller, and more! Most people lean more towards paranormal horror films rather than normal thriller movies. Paranormal films tend to include more ghosts, demons, and other supernatural elements in the horror genre. I believe the targeted audience of horror films will keep this genre successful. People are still enjoying movies that were made many years ago. For example, the movie Scream. The first movie was made in 1996. Many people are still going to the movies now to see the 5th rendition of it (2022). I believe this genre will continue to grow due to the upcoming generation continuing to follow the pattern of enjoying these films.
Most films, regardless of their genre, spread mainly by word of mouth. For my film, I think it would be best to market on social media sites. This way, we know that it is reaching the target audience. Most teenagers/ young adults have one of the following social media sites - Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and most importantly, Instagram. In the past, famous actors and directors have posted on there socials to promote a movie. It ends up doing very well in the box office after promotions like this. Statistics show that social media is the main way movies are advertised. Social media nowadays is how major things get announced. Our directors, producers, and production team will make major announcements about the upcoming film. This could include movie trailers, teasers, and release dates. Once something is posted, instantly more people are commenting and most importantly sharing the post. This spreads the information to many people. For the people that don't have social media, they can see ads for our movie either from on television or possibly even in the newspaper. As for when the movie is finally released, I will have a big opening night, hoping that all the social media promotion paid off.
