CCR Final Video

1. How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues?

The things we used that supported our conventions were the lighting and setting of our film. Meanwhile, the thing that challenged our convention was the lighting. In a horror film, it is normal to have a "scary" looking setting. Due to this, we chose our setting to be mainly in the woods. We also edited our film to have darker lighting. It appears to be more suspenseful and unsettling when the lighting is low-key. We used elements of cinematography when filming as well. We used certain angles and shots to get the best product when filming. We used long shots when the main character was walking her dog. We soon after switched to close-up shots when she was getting kidnapped to increase the amount of suspense. Our products represent a very important issue nowadays; girls getting kidnapped. Our main character (me) walked into the woods thinking everything was okay. Little did she know, her life was about to be turned upside down.

2. How do your products engage with the audience and how would they be distributed as real media products?

Our film engages with the audience because most people are into horror movies nowadays. Horror movies are very suspenseful and they keep the viewers on the edge of their seats at all times. It creates an unsettling feeling when you don't know what is going to happen next. The lighting was darker and it pulled the viewers in even more. The setting was also giving off the creepy vibes that no one was around. It appeared to just be the main girl, the dog, and the kidnapper in the back of the forest. This would be distributed in theaters. Hopefully, later on, the film could be distributed onto platforms such as Netflix. This platform is known for its wide range of horror/thriller movies.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

This product helped my production skills to develop in many ways. This was a very hands-on project and it helped to expand my knowledge in the film world. I made errors along the way but we eventually figured out everything for the final product. When filming, sometimes what we had on our storyboard was not true to real life. Therefore, we had to redo things on the set of where we were filming. This was difficult at first but the story eventually came together. We also struggled to have enough footage for our final cut. We had to film some more and edit very carefully to meet the minimum required time.

4. How did you integrate technologies in this project?

There was a lot of technology used in this project. First, we used a phone to film all of our footage. We also used a phone as a prop in our video. The main character left it inside the house to show that she did not have her phone when she was kidnapped. We wrote many blog posts dedicated to our final cut. Our blog posts helped us to write our script, create our storyboard, and give updates on editing, production, post-production, etc. We also edited our footage using a computer. Without technology, this film would not have been possible.
